ORGANIC FARMING

In 2008, we purchased a 15 acre plot of land in the rain forest to restore to its pre‐hurricane‐Ivan state, starting with the clearing of vines that are strangling the giant rain forest trees. The land is situated high up in the mountains of the parish of St. David’s and was previously part of a larger nutmeg plantation which has been neglected since Hurricane Ivan.

The clearing and farming is providing permanent employment for local farmers from the area and furthermore, is helping to preserve the existing large rain forest trees and agricultural land from building developments.

We have started to organically farm short crops to complement the existing local supply for our Aquarium Restaurant including lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, herbs and sweet peppers which are thriving in the rain forest climate between sugarcane, banana and breadfruit trees. We are already harvesting nutmeg and avocado from the freshly cleared trees and naturally growing bamboo is being used for construction and interior decorating projects.
